Beginning in Anacortes, a historically rich town on Fidalgo Island just 78 miles north of Seattle, you’re an easy sail away from Pacific Northwest’s secluded coves and quaint seaside towns. The San Juan Islands, consisting of 172 named islands and reefs, are strung like jewels up and down the Pacific Northwest coastline.
The protected waters that surround these islands are a closely guarded secret to those who have discovered them. Wildlife abounds; from May through September you can watch local pods of Orca frolic in the waves – and you’re just as likely to see squirrels, deer and migratory birds as you are to spot seals, sea lions and whales.
