The perfect one week itinerary for Croatia yacht charters
You really are spoilt for choice when on a yacht charter in Croatia. A country of over 1000 islands, here is our guide to how to spend a week sailing in Croatia.
If you want to discover the Dalmatian coast on a yacht charter, it can be really time-consuming researching your dream trip. Luckily, we’ve taken away this hassle by designing a charter based on Dave’s recent trip, which shows off the best of Croatia’s thousands of islands.
You can enjoy the sail yourself or sit back and relax by hiring a skipper who can take the helm, act as a handy guide and point out hidden gems and great places to eat.
Day one - Seget Donji, Trogir, to Maslinica, Solta
I recommend starting your charter at Seget Donji, close to Trogir, which is a fantastic new marina that will give a great base to start and end your trip. There’s another advantage too, you’ll avoid the heavy traffic in peak season getting over the bridge. Set the tone for your trip with a short sail across to Maslinica to enjoy the sunset and settle into tasty Croatian cuisine among the town’s many tempting restaurants.
Day two - Maslinica, Solta to Hvar Town, Hvar
After breakfast head on over to the wonderful Hvar Town with its rich history, interesting culture and exciting nightlife, including plenty of sports bars to catch the big game if, like me, you want to keep up with the football. If you can’t find a town quay spot, then look for anchorages opposite the quay or berth at Palmizana ACI. Don’t worry about being too far away for a good night out, as there’s a handy water taxi service.
Day three - Hvar Town, Hvar, to Korcula Town, Korcula
An itinerary must-see is Korcula, which is heralded as the birthplace of Venetian merchant traveller, Marco Polo. Walk through the maze of alleyways that criss-cross this beautiful walled town. Marvel at St Mark’s cathedral and climb the bell tower for an amazing view. For a secluded sandy beach, Pupnatska Luca is worth a visit.
Day four - Korcula Town, Korcula, to Skrivena Luka, Hidden Bay, Lastovo
For this leg, I experienced a lack of wind but it was still a great sail to Hidden Bay. Get your binoculars out, as they weren’t joking when they named this location – it is hard to spot! But it’s worth the search, as it offers protection from the elements and the chance to eat at the fab restaurant by the jetty.
Day five - Skrivena Luka, Hidden Bay, Lastovo to Vis Town, Vis
For a cafe and bar culture fix, visit Vis Town where you’ll be spoilt for choice on the quay. For a quieter ambience, wander the backstreets to find the best local restaurants. A hidden gem is Pojoda in Kut Bay, which is one of my favourites.
Day six - Vis Town,Vis, to Stari Grad, Hvar
At this point in the charter, you tend to find yourself totally in relaxation mode and ready for the day’s exploration. Enjoy a starogrojski paprenjok, the area’s traditional pastry, and a coffee and explore the town, founded by Greeks 2,400 years ago. Also visit Tvrdalj castle, an impressive Renaissance fortress while you are there.
Day seven - Stari Grad, Hvar, to Seget Donji, Trogir
For our last night, we headed back to Seget Donji and walked in a westerly direction out of the marina and along the beach to find somewhere to eat. Here we found a great fish restaurant and made the most of our last hours on the trip.
Day eight - Disembark and explore Trogir for the day
If you’ve timed your flights right, you will have time to discover Trogir which really is worth your time. You could almost argue that a day isn’t enough to enjoy this mini Venice.
