The Grenadines sit in the Caribbean between St Lucia and Grenada in the south. You’ll find most islands are uninhabited, such as the renowned Tobago Cays. Whether you want to swim secluded bays, stroll sandy beaches or snorkel with marine life, such as eagle rays and turtles, this part of the world will offer you a special charter experience.

Weather and sailing conditions

From mid-December, the north easterly trade wind between 15 and 25 knots arrives which is great for sailing. It’s high year-round temperatures vary little reaching 82ºF between December and March.

Provision planning in the Grenadines

Support the islands and buy from traders who have fantastic supplies of local produce, such as fruit, vegetables and bread. Definitely buy the locally caught fresh fish and lobsters, often at a great price, for a BBQ to remember. You can also find supplies at:

  • Bequia – stock up at Doris Fresh Food for gourmet food and wines
  • Union Island – you can buy freshly baked bread at Bougainvillea Marina
  • Grenada – shop at the supermarkets, such as: Food Fair (Carenage, St. George’s), Blue Danube Grocery (Lowther’s Lane), Foodland (Port Louis), Real Value Supermarket (Grand Anse) and CK’S SUPER-VALUE (Grand Anse)

Get to know the islands

  • Bequia has 28 dive sites around the island, including wrecks and shallow caves, a true diver’s paradise
  • Carriacou, the Isle of Reefs, offers breathtaking mountain views towards Grenada
  • Union Island’s Clifton Harbour boasts bars and restaurants where you can try the local delicacies. Chatham Bay  has wonderful swimming and snorkelling
  • Petite St. Vincent’s nearby island of Morpion offers unforgettable snorkelling
  • Tobago Cays, an archipelago of five small uninhabited islands, is the must-see location in the region. On Petit Tabac, the film ‘The Pirates of the Caribbean’ was filmed and you can still see some of the overgrown film locations. Visit the Tobago Cays Marine Park to swim with turtles and visit the iguanas
  • Mustique’s Macaroni Beach is a great stop off and you can mingle with the famous at Basil’s Bar
  • On Grenada, spot cocoa and nutmeg trees growing wild or visit the organic chocolate factory and the River Antoine’s rum distillery
  • St. Vincent’s waterfalls and volcano craters are worth the hikes, as is a stroll around the old towns and villages with their Creole buildings
