The Caribbean region of St. Vincent, the Grenadines and Grenada is a favorite of the LateSail team and we’ve pulled together  our top places to eat and visit, as well as useful tips on provisioning for a bareboat yacht charter. Read on for our insider guide…

Don’t miss adding these to your itinerary

  • Grenada, Moliniere Point, for the underwater sculpture park and the fort at St. George’s for the views
  • Mopion, a small sandbar, is great for photos, swimming and kayaking
  • Carriacou, nearby Sandy Island, offers great snorkelling, warm rock pools and a miniature sculpture park on the beach. Hillsborough has a relaxed atmosphere but remember to clear in and out of customs
  • Petit St. Vincent is a private island but sailors can book in advance to visit
  • Petite Martinique’s Palm Beach restaurant has a lovely garden setting on the beach
  • Mayreau, Tobago Cays, to visit the marine park – you will need to pay a daily fee to a park ranger. Look for turtles, buy goods off local visiting boats, overnight in peaceful surroundings and join in the organised beach BBQs ashore

Our top bars and restaurants

  • Black Boys Bar & Grill, Mayreau, for excellent, grilled lobster and a local experience
  • Splash the cash at Salt Whistle Bay Club, Mayreau
  • Beach House, Grand Anse, Grenada
  • Luxurious Chatham Bay Resort, Union Island, for pre-dinner cocktails and Sunbeach & Eat (aka Sekkies) for fabulous food. Happy Island Bar, built on the edge of the reef out of conch shells, is a great place for a relaxed sundowner. Remember to clear in and out of customs
  • Lazy Turtle,Tyrell Bay on Carriacou, for Italian pizza and pasta. Enjoy its big deck overlooking the bay

Currency and taxes

The current is Eastern Caribbean dollars EC$ which you can exchange at the airport. Be aware there is a cruising tax of EC$5 per person per day, payable locally, so carry cash with you.

Base & provisioning information

St. Vincent: You’ll find fuel, water, ice, showers, laundry, swimming pool beach bar and upstairs bar overlooking the marina. For provisioning you can shop from a small supermarket at the base (which has limited supplies) or Sunrise Supermarket opposite the airport. In town you’ll find delis, bakeries and upmarket dining. We recommend provisioning in advance as there are limited chances during your charter. For supply stop offs, read our blog on the perfect 10-day charter in Grenada and the Grenadines.

Grenada, Port Louis Marina: The base has 24-hour security with shower facilities, dive shop, laundry, swimming pool, restaurant and bar. For provisioning there is a small mini market at the marina and a Foodland supermarket nearby.

Otherwise you can provision fresh produce at Clifton Harbour, Union Island, and Petit Martinique is also good for topping up, refueling and water.

One way charter

If availability allows then consider a one way charter, for example picking up a yacht in St Vincent and leaving it in Grenada. There is a surcharge for the privilege but will mean you can explore more islands without having to double back on yourself, and keep the wind in your favour for the whole trip.

Getting there

Fly from many of the US East Coast hub airports to Barbados (about a 5 flight) and get a connecting 30-minute LIAT flight to St Vincent. We can arrange the 10-minute transfer from St. Vincent to the base. Or start from St Lucia and take advantage of direct flights from the US.
