Croatia is one of our favourite destinations for a yacht charter and we’re sharing one of our hidden gems in this blog, Korcula. Often likened to a miniature Dubrovnik, the Croatian island of Korcula is located just off the Pelješac peninsula. Add it to your itinerary for the perfect culture boost.
Korcula is home to St Mark’s cathedral, or Cathedral Sveti Marko. If you climb to the top of the bell tower, you’ll be blown away by the amazing view of this town. You can see all along the coastline, spotting secret coves and blurred yachts in the distance. It really is well worth the climb, even in the height of summer.
This town has also claimed to be the birthplace of merchant tradesman, Marco Polo, which has caused a little controversy with the Venetians who also make the same claim. Nethertheless, you can’t escape Marco Polo fever in the town during your visit.
For those who haven’t sailed Croatia before, the country’s Adriatic coastline is popular among sailors for its blue green seas, thousands of islands (many of which are uninhabited or car-free), stunning national parks and breathtaking cities, from medieval-walled Dubrovnik to the fantastic shopping in Split.
This part of the world was known for it’s trading prowess and the harbours are still brimming with life with places to eat and drink as you watch people bustle about in the day or take in the fabulous burnt orange sunsets as the nightlife begins. If you love seafood, then you will be spoilt for choice!
