All the ports feel different to each other and you can relax, people watch and try delicious tapas from restaurants and bars in the harbor, or explore towns and trails further inland. We’ve put together a yacht charter itinerary for those who want to put in the nautical miles, sail the open water and circumnavigate the island.
What to see and do
Cabrera Archipelago Maritime-Terrestrial National Park has a renowned, unspoiled landscape of 19 islands, just 10km off Mallorca’s south-east coast. You’ll find bird colonies, 200 species of fish, dolphins, loggerhead turtles and whales, as well at 14th century castles that warded off pirate attacks. Charter boats can pre-book buoys in the natural harbor where you can overnight, otherwise you can only anchor during the day. Find out more about booking buoys, sailing and diving in the park.
Head to the port and then further inland to the town of Andraxt with its ancient watch towers and narrow, cobbled streets. If you’re feeling active, there are plenty of walking paths up into the mountains or in the forests. If you visit on a Sunday, you can enjoy the informal wine tasting at Bodegas Santa Catarina.
Sail to Soller, a beautiful horseshoe-shaped harbor with the Tramuntana mountains giving impressive backdrop. This pretty town’s name means ‘golden valley’ and the region is famous for its oranges and ice cream.
Visit the Port de Pollença, a family resort with long sandy beaches fringed with palms and a fishing fleet in the harbor. It’s a popular base for cyclists, who like to cycle the promenade. Every April there is the Pollença Wine Fair, where you can taste the wines of the Balearics.
The Dragon Caves, or Cuevas del Drach, needs to be on your Mallorca bareboat itinerary so you can see its impressive underground lake and stalactite cave system. You can also hear the 10-minute quartet concert at Lake Martel with its sunrise light effects. If you love beaches, make for Sa Rapita’s Es Trenc beach, a 3km stretch of white sand along the small town of Ses Covetes.
